Owner Spotlight: Elizabeth Whitehead

DEFINE: Tell us what DEFINE’s approach to fitness and wellness means to you.

ELIZABETH: DEFINE has brought balance to my workouts through the body, mind and rev classes. This trifecta has changed my body and mind forever. Holding a position in class and needing to find my balance in order not to fall, has brought a barre-like mentality into my everyday life. Balance is something we are always striving for and sometimes less is more. That is why DEFINE is perfect, because in life we often get caught up in the “more is better” mindset and at DEFINE the exact opposite is true. One achieves more doing less, utilizing smaller movements that bring your body and mind together.

DEFINE: What role does community play in fitness and wellbeing?

ELIZABETH: DEFINE is a community of friends that have common goals. The overall theme of health is at the front of everyone’s mind. DEFINE brings together such a large variety of people from different age groups. In no other workout could you find a teenager standing next to a 60-year-old, next to a 30-year-old (although the may be doing different variations or modifications of a move). They are all experiencing the same community with the same goals: a better life.
DEFINE: What does paying it forward/giving back mean to you personally?
ELIZABETH:  When I was a student at DEFINE, I was always amazed by how much I got from the instructor: the encouragement, knowing when I needed to hear my name to push me a little bit harder or the wise words spoken to me. One great piece of advice was to try a mind class. The DEFINE mind classes have kept my body injury-free from all the triathlon training I do. Well, now the shoe is on the other foot and I cannot tell you how much I receive from teaching at DEFINE. Perhaps it is the former cheerleader in me, but I truly feel, for that hour of time I am teaching, that I am my students’ personal cheerleader, encouraging, helping them to find their strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, when my students leave class, I want them to feel feel that their hour at DEFINE was the best gift they could give themselves. I get so much back from each client. We all have our different reasons for why we are at DEFINE, and all of them are good because they keep us striving towards our goals.

DEFINE : What is your connection to The Pink Ribbons Project?

ELIZABETH:  Breast cancer has taken friends, mothers, sisters, aunts and grandmothers. It does not discriminate by how much you are loved or the life you have lived. The best cure against breast cancer is early detection. The Pink Ribbons project believes that:

- Awareness and early detection of breast cancer will save lives.
- Screening and diagnostic testing for breast cancer should be made available to everyone.
- All persons touched by breast cancer should have access to medical treatment.

We are excited to offer a new way to participate in Tour de Pink this year!  Participants can sign up online and DEFINE Body & Mind at which to ride on their own or cover miles in spin class.

Pink Spin provides an invaluable opportunity to be a part of Tour de Pink and fundraise to give back to those in our community who are or have been touched by breast cancer!  It is also a great way to build comraderie among fellow spinners as you work toward a common goal that ultimately benefits the Greater Houston Community!

Individuals and teams will spin from the time they sign up, on September 15, 2013 (the day of the ride) and until October 15, 2013 when all donations are due.  Funds raised from participants will directly benefit Pink Ribbons Project's outreach, education and awareness initiatives.
